We’re obsessed with ‘The Avengers.’ How could we not be? Aside from its obvious entertainment value, the film three leading superheros– Chris Evans, Robert Downey Jr., and Mark Ruffalo – represent men’s fashion at its finest on the red carpets.
In fact, we’re so enamoured with their recent display of dapper style, we’ve decided to dissect their three individual looks so you can style yourself (or your man!) just the same.
Feeling extravagant? Head out in a shiny blazer, like Mr. Downey Jr. did. This is a perfectly acceptable style for significant events. If he wore matching trousers, the look might be a bit too “disco ball,” but the jacket by itself just adds the right dose of red carpet glam.
Two more rules for executing this look:
1. Keep the fit comfortable but not tight to the body
2. Avoid unnecessary embellishments, like a patterned tie or pocket square – the metallic wool makes enough of a statement on its own
Even though he’s wearing the most traditional fabric for a suit – black wool – Mark Ruffalo dressed his look down with a skinny tie and his trademark scruffy hair. When you’re rough around the edges (in all the right ways!), simple tailoring and a clean palette creates a roguishly sharp look.
Try Mr Ruffalo’s look yourself but take note of the following:
1. Spend some time on grooming – with such simple tailoring skin, hair and facial hair really stand out
2. A monochromatic skinny tie will add just tiny bit of texture to this simple look
What’s better on a man than a great smile? A slim-silhouette suit, if you ask us! Chris Evans wears one perfectly here – with a crease, a vest and a pocket square, mind you. The slim tie brings modernity – a meatier knot would look more traditional.
To keep a three-piece suit unstuffy:
1. Ensure your jacket is tailored close to your body
2. Keep accessories simple – Chris kept it cool with a pair of classic shades and a sporty watch
